We broke ground at the Lakeview Elementary Garden this week! The week began with a successful teacher luncheon where we provided vegetables fresh from the Long Beach VA Garden for the staff to enjoy. We welcomed the teacher’s input regarding ideas for the garden because we believe it is essential to get as many people involved as possible in order to get this project off the ground. It was interesting to hear how the teachers envision the garden as we hope to bring some of their great ideas to life. Some ideas included more areas to sit and meditate in the garden as well as a walking path with bricks designed by the students. After the staff was informed and on board, it was time to start working in the garden. The garden requires a lot of work, so we began weeding the grounds and raised beds first. Due to limited funds, we need to get crafty and thrifty which translates to…Pinterest! It’s a dirty job, but somebody’s got to do it and we look forward to working in the garden every week.
